Mursego

Maite Arroitajauregi (Eibar, 1977) is Mursego, one of the most singular voices in contemporary Basque music. A graduate in cello from the Conservatorio Superior de Gasteiz, after collaborating with projects such as Anari and Lisabö, she launched her solo project in 2009. Armed with a cello, a loop station and a varied collection of instruments, she builds her songs live layer by layer, creating a universe that blends avant-garde, Basque folk and classical music. She sings mainly in Basque, and her references range from Mikel Laboa to The Velvet Underground, taking in popular music and experimental minimalism.
